Spotlight on Islay Singing Her Own Compositions
One evening in July, 2023 a musical event occurred at “Naturally Superior Lodge” in Wawa, Ontario. The performers were Islay Smedley, who sang her own songs and Joanne Poisson who played her own piano compositions. They sang and played to a full house and received a standing ovation at the end of the evening.

Two Performances by Islay in Southern Ontario
In the summer of 2024, after being accepted by the Canadian Musicians Co-operative’s Pre-Professional Programme Islay began training to become an entertainer. The training took place in Barry, Ontario and was a month long. After this training she was performing on stage. What a colourfully lit stage it was. She sang one of her own compositions, “I need to learn to let you go”, and a Rock And Roll song “N.I.B.” by Black Sabbath. There were marvelous bands playing as back up.
This group of pre-professionals played for audiences, for free, in Bradford, Barrie and Orillia.
Hush Hush was written for women. It speaks to women
